We're currently watching a Korean drama that's pretty good (it's called "Thank You"), and it's about a little girl who was accidentally infected with AIDS.  The first half of the series is about how happy the little girl is in the town and then midway through, the town finds out.  The formerly friendly townsfolk then start turning on the single mom and the daughter.

Normally, I'm not one to look towards my movies or TV shows to make me "think."  I'm so god damn brilliant that I probably thought of that scenario already.  ;-)  But I guess "my kid's friend having AIDS" is a scenario that never really crossed my mind.  A decade or two ago, AIDS was all over the news, but you rarely hear about it any more.  Apparently for the the past decade, the death rate has been declining, but I'd be shocked if it still wasn't one of the top causes of death.

On the one hand, I don't think AIDS should really affect a friendship.  I knew of at least one person with AIDS and it didn't affect our relationship at all.  But then as a ("possibly" slightly overprotective) parent, am I really going to want to have my kid hang out regularly with another kid who should be okay, but have a non-zero chance that a freak life-threatening event could happen?  Not sure how to handle that.  I mean if the worst that could happen was my kid breaking a leg or something, then no big deal.  But what if they do some dumb shit like decide to be blood brothers, or get into some fight over whether BeyBlade is better than Bakugan.  You just never know with kids... and obviously even young adults.

Anyway, haven't decided what I would do, but I thought it was an interesting dilemma, so I thought I would share it with you.  So in case you're wondering, "WTF is DFly thinking folding all those hands?!?"  It's probably some thing like this...

or maybe it's...

(especially since I've been on this low carb diet)
