We went and got 6 lobsters. 2-3 for us and the rest for lobster rolls the next day because... our friends from Boston came down to visit us this past weekend. Finally! They had planned to come down two or three times before, but they always had to cancel. Maybe they heard about the cobra I trained to bite people's loins. But somehow Mrs. Fly talked them into coming down anyway.
In lieu of lunch, Mrs. Fly thought we could just nosh on appetizers for a few hours and drink while we "watched" the kids play in the back yard. There are a few additions to the appetizer repertoire that are new to the blog. The plate the second from the top is jalapeno poppers that Mrs. Fly made for the first time - hollowed jalepenos with a cheddar/cream cheese filling and wrapped in bacon. It was pretty good (because you really can't go wrong with bacon, cheese and a little kick) but could probably use a little tweaking. And on the bottom are lobster rolls. Mrs. Fly had wanted to get 7 lobsters the other day (but I thought that was too much), so politically I was not able to eat more than one (lest we run out). Me moron. Note to self: the next time Mrs. Fly wants to make a large quantity of something delicious, STFU!!!Oh! And the big news! One of the three slabs of ribs I made turned out really good! I basically loosely covered the ribs this time and put the heat even lower. I think I'm on the verge of a major breakthrough, so I'm pretty excited about my next batch of ribs. Unfortunately, we've eaten an absurd amount of ribs this summer so I don't think we can eat more than a few servings the rest of the year. So I have to make the next few count.
Lunch the next day was chicken pot pie, beef pot pie, stuffed peppers and roughage. Everything was good, but the chicken pot pie was outstanding. I also liked the stuffed peppers (which Mrs. Fly made for the first time). The roughage wasn't bad, since Mrs. Fly made the ranch dressing and it didn't have that preservative taste. So the former chef told Mrs. Fly that our house is the only place he can go for great home-cooked meals. Way to get invited back, dude!
