For Mother's Day, we went to the favorite family restaurant, which is a Chinese restaurant in the town I grew up in.  The food there is not 100% authentic, but for slightly westernized Chinese food, it's really good.  I would say at least half the clientele are Chinese and there aren't many Asians living in the area, so that's a good sign.  We got many of our favorites - Peking duck, beef with peppercorn sauce, lobster with ginger and scallion sauce, etc.

For dessert, my sister ("FireFly") made an original cake.  For the visually impaired, the cake is supposed to look like potted roses.  The cake was chocolate hazelnut, I think the icing was butter creme, the "dirt" was oreo crumbs, and the flowers and leaves were fondant and icing.  She took a 1 week pastry class for fun and she learned how to make all kinds of different decorations.  Mighty talented my sister.

She's a freelance graphic designer and she also made the logo and banner for my blog.  I just told her I was writing a blog and that my screen name was DoubleFly and she whipped up like half a dozen different ideas.  The one I chose stood out to me for a bunch of reasons. Obviously it looks like two flies ("double fly"), that also look like two spades (I play poker ldo), but most importantly, it reminded me of my family - two big people and two little people.  That pretty much sums up what I'm about.  Maybe later I'll post some of her other sketches.

Some guys just rang our bell and said they were from North Carolina selling furniture at "wholesale" door to door and Mrs. Fly wanted to go, so I have to stop now.  It seems like a weird business model, so I want to check it out.  Mrs. Fly just likes to shop - because she's a woman LDO.
