Odd case of writer's block today.  I have a bunch of things I'm working on, but let me know if have any suggestions for posts.

WHAT'S FOR DINNER?

Here's a meal I like to have every so often... curry chicken.  Mrs. Fly takes one of those curry blocks (aka hunk of salt, MSG and curry - tastes like probably in that order) from the Asian supermarket and adds a bunch of healthy ingredients, like chicken and carrots.  It tastes really good, but I always feel a little weird afterwards...  I think it's the high concentration of salt and MSG.  I start feeling a little dehydrated and twitchy...  call me TouretteFly.  My "pasta sauce rule" applies to curry as well - I need enough coverage of sauce so that I can't see any of the rice/pasta below.  Hmm... I think I can still see some rice on the on and right.  This rule probably isn't helping my salt and MSG overload.

My family used to own a building in Brooklyn, and one of our tenants was a Chinese restaurant wholesaler.  I remember walking in there to talk to the owner, and there was like a wall full of 100 gallon drums of MSG.  Those 100 gallon drums were the standard unit of sale for commercial MSG.  That was pretty shocking.

Mrs. Fly and I have a long-standing disagreement about MSG.  I try to avoid it, but she says it's a natural product and there are no definitive studies of adverse effects in moderate doses.  Not sure if the FDA considers my "sauce rule" a moderate dose.  Probably not.

All I know is that I feel like crap afterwards.  So you may be asking... why do you eat the curry somewhat regularly (like once every few months)?  Because it tastes good, and it bring be back to when I was younger and my mom made it for me.  And it's not like I never eat stuff that isn't good for me (once in a while), or that makes me feel like crap.  It's kind of like asking someone... why do you go to a bar, if you're just going to wake up with a hangover the next morning?  Or even worse, wake up next to a 3/10.  Or you're missing a tooth and there's a tiger in the bathroom.  Dunno...  I guess people (including me) are just stupid.
