Some very brief awkward moments came when my uncle met D for the first time and asked what his Catholic name was. I wanted to say, "we're putting him on the fast track to hell," but instead chose the more diplomatic "we haven't baptized him yet - but soon." I think this may be the year we get the kids baptized. I promised my mother and we no longer have the "we just moved" excuse (we've moved like 7 times in 11 years). And during dinner he asked how I was doing considering the recession, and I told him I was playing poker. I don't think the church looks too favorably on gambling - just a hunch. He paused for a few seconds and we mercifully moved on to something else.
He's the unofficial family historian. I knew we decended from a Catholic martyr, but did not realize it was my great-great-great grandfather. I also didn't know we had a bishop in the family. My uncle's apparently working on developing some sort of cultural center back in the homeland. When you have a bajillion relatives, it's hard to keep up.

Tonight is the Oscar party. Stay tuned.
