We went to the Oscar party as... Bonnie and Clyde. I'm so glad I didn't have to go as a hobbit or the geezer perv. I still think we should have gone as Fred & Wilma. Yabba Dabba Doo!
Btw, this wasn't a "real" Oscar party, where there were celebrities - it was just a local costume party. I felt ridiculous because the hat Mrs. Fly got me was way too small, even though it was an "XL." Picture an Easter Island moai with a tiny hat on. I also didn't realize I didn't have a pinstripe suit. I used to have at least two, but I think between one of our many apartment moves, we decided that it was too "80's" and so we donated it to the local Salvation Army. It was one of those parties where I literally knew 3 people there. But by the end of the evening, we met a few nice local couples and won a prize for guessing a movie correctly, so it was all good.
One of my cousins thought we were going to a "Hollywood" Oscar party. We don't know any real celebrities. The closest we've come is G was in the same class as a famous news anchor's daughter. She had a crush on him, and then discovered he was just a big goofball and seemed to have moved on. And one of Mrs. Fly's friends is the sister of a pretty well known singer and actor in the homeland. But other than that, we've only had run-ins:
Like the time Paulina Porizkova told Mrs. Fly that G was cute (damn! he was a cute baby). That SI cover is still etched in my mind - it was probably one of those key life moments where I reaffirmed I was not gay and never would be. I think Joan Allen also told Mrs. Fly that G was cute. Or the time Mrs. Fly stalked Chris Noth for three blocks, he got scared (as he should have been) and hopped into a cab. Lara Spencer told Mrs. Fly she liked her boots at a local J Crew. Or the time John Cusack almost spilled coffee on G and Mrs. Fly called him a "mofo tofo" (he had to come back to find out what that meant). Tbh, I have no idea who walks by me. Having lived in New York most of my life, you get accustomed to ignoring everyone who walks by. But Mrs. Fly is super visual. It probably also helps she religiously reads People and the fashion magazines.
The only celebrity run-in I've had is with Robert DeNiro at a local eatery. I met someone from work at a nice restaurant and we were having drinks outside while waiting for Mrs. Fly to show up. "Bobby" was at the table next to us having what looked to be a business meeting. The whole time, I was shitting bricks that Mrs. Fly would come at any minute, see Robert DeNiro and then completely flip out at this fancy restaurant. He's probably her favorite actor. Thankfully, his table was ready a few minutes before she arrived. They must've had some private rooms because Mrs. Fly couldn't track him down in the main dining area. Or maybe he got a tip from Chris Noth and he left the premises (as he should have).
