Bitch. Oops. Sorry - a reflex from when I was younger.
Part of it was that she had no idea about the life of a poker player. More important were the negative personality stereotypes associated with gambling. But mostly it was because she had no idea what to tell her family. The latter seems completely retarded but she comes from that kind of family/background. That being said, she's been supportive of my decision not to go back to work and play pro poker instead.
What's ironic is that she and her family love me at least as much as before I made the career change. It all goes to show you... You can't judge a book by it cover. One of the things I'd like to try and do with the blog is to dispel some of the stereotypes with respect to poker players. Having been both a trader and poker player, I can tell you that the two occupations are very similar - yet one is highly respected and the other is not (later post). As with any subset of the population, you're going to have your bad apples and good eggs. The bad eggs in poker get all the publicity (later post).
REVIEW
Next up... I'll be signing up for DeucesCracked. And my first stop is Nolan from 2+2.
